I was in North Carolina to finish up biking the trails listed in the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC) Southeast Rail-Trail book. I rode the trails in Wilmington, NC yesterday and Sunday and today I’m in Gold Hill, NC to bike their very short rail-trail. The trail is part of a mining historic district. Really not much more than a poorly maintained dirt road. I finished it up in the morning just before rain set in. Only two hours to get home.
The thing about guidebooks is that you have to have trails in them. So I understand RTC getting creative when it comes to rail-trails in North Carolina and South Carolina. We’re not exactly known for our trail development. Now, take a state like Florida and you could fill two volumes with trails. That’s why I like to make a trip down there each winter. Never disappointed. Always get in some good rides.
