2017 Jim Schmid walks newest segment of French Broad River Greenway – Asheville, NC

Living in Black Mountain, NC we are just 15 miles from Asheville, NC. Since we’re so close when I go to town I like to make a day of it by getting on a local trail and doing some shopping. Asheville has many short sections of paved trails around town. They have a long-range plan to eventually connect them. The French Broad River Greenway goes through parks along the River. Last year I biked a 3-mile segment. After that ride I stopped in at the New Belgium Brewing Tasting Room. A big deal for Asheville – New Belgium has built a huge brewery on the River. It’s now open for tours. I noticed a new trail under construction along the river behind the Brewery. It’s now finished. It’s a half mile paved trail. I walked it and then stopped in at the Tasting Room again. What a beautiful addition to the river corridor and to Asheville. The plans are to connect this segment to the 3-mile segment that I biked last year.
