2017 Jim Schmid bicycles 6-mile North Augusta Greeneway – SC

It’s always a good feeling to get back on a familiar trail. Sandra and first walked the abandoned railroad ROW back  when I wrote my 1989 SC Rail-Trail Thesis while a student at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. I identified it as having potential for conversion to a trail. The town of North Augusta, SC acquired 7 miles of ROW and we were there in 1996 to celebrate the grand opening. The ‘e’ in Greeneway is not a mistake. The trail is named in honor of former Mayor Thomas W. Greene.

At six miles this is a very popular rail-trail that cuts through the heart of North Augusta. I’m proud to have had a small hand in it’s creation.
