2016 Jim Schmid participates in First Day Hike – Chimney Rock State Park – NC

1stDayHike_LogoWhat a great way to start a new year—with a hike. Chimney Rock State Park is only a half hour south of Black Mountain, NC. 150 hearty souls met at the gate at 8 am for the 3 mile walk up the Park road to Chimney Rock. The Park opens at 10 am so we had a time limit. We were bused back to our vehicles. Was a lot of fun to walk the road were you normally can only drive.

First Day Hikes are in all 50 States sponsored by local State Parks.

I drove home to get Sandra and we came back. Because I participated in the First Day Hike I got in free (she had to pay $13). This time we got to drive the 3 miles to top. We walked the (500) steps to top of Chimney Rock. Then I walked higher yet to Exclamation Point. What beautiful views.
