This was another of our hikes to experience and learn more about the Appalachian Trail. From Neels Gap (located in northern Georgia) it’s a 2.5 mile hike to the top of Blood Mountain. The summit is the highest point in Georgia on the Appalachian Trail. Before our hike we spent some time in Mountain Crossings, the outdoor gear store located in the historic Waleisi-Yi Center at Neels Gap. They have a really great selection of high-end backpacking gear. This was our first time seeing trekking poles. They had a program where you could try them out. We used them on our hike and liked them so much we both bought a pair. I still use mine on every hike. Sandra didn’t keep her’s very long. Turns out she likes a hiking stick better. The photos are of the stone shelter on top of Blood Mountain built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934.
