1999 Jim and Sandra Schmid hike Eutaw Springs Passage of Palmetto Trail – SC

When Ollie Buckles retired from the Francis Marion National Forest the Palmetto Conservation Foundation hired him to find a route for the cross-state Palmetto Trail in the Lowcountry. Sandra and I joined Ken Driggers and Anne Springs Close on a hike with Ollie as he showed off the new route near Lake Marion. This section would come to be known as the Eutaw Springs Passage. We had our dogs (Blue and Dezi) with us. For most of the hike a stray puppy followed us. We took her home. Sandra named her Tumbleweed and she was part of our family for many years.
